The project is situated in a very important civic precinct across from City Hall and a block from the ocean and public seawall. The demanding program called for the incorporation of disparate entertainment functions such as: ice rink, cinemas, bowling lanes, aquatics centre, and an array of restaurant and bars, culminated by a hotel tower. The design capitalized on the tremendous potential of creating a dynamic hybrid building from these multiple uses. The building was conceived as a transparent beacon where these activities are revealed in various ways on the building’s skin. As such, the building reads as a kind of monumental “billboard” to the activity within.
